Italian hoagie bread recipe
Ingredients
- 12 ounces (oz) of warm water
- 2 teaspoons (tsp) of active dry yeast
- 2 teaspoons (tsp) of granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon (tsp) of salt
- 20 ounces (oz) of all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon (tsp) of dough conditioner
- 2 teaspoons (tsp) of powdered milk
- 2 teaspoons (tsp) of egg whites
- 2 teaspoons (tsp) of olive oil
- 1 egg
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
- Combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar in a mixing bowl.
- In a second bowl, add the salt and the flour.
- Then add the dough conditioner, and powdered milk to the second bowl.
- Pour the wet yeast mixture from the first bowl into the second bowl of dry ingredients.
- Add the egg whites and olive oil
- Mix for 5 minutes on your mixer’s first (lowest) speed.
- Mix for another 10 minutes on the mixer’s second speed.
- While the dough is mixing, make an egg wash in another bowl by mixing one egg with one tablespoon (tbsp) of water.
- Divide the dough into pieces weighing 3 pounds (lbs) each.
- Shape the dough pieces into long loaves.
- Brush the loaves with the egg wash.
- Let the loaves rise on top of the warm oven for 15 minutes.
- Bake in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes.
