Italian hoagie bread recipe

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces (oz) of warm water
  • 2 teaspoons (tsp) of active dry yeast
  • 2 teaspoons (tsp) of granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon (tsp) of salt
  • 20 ounces (oz) of all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon (tsp) of dough conditioner
  • 2 teaspoons (tsp) of powdered milk
  • 2 teaspoons (tsp) of egg whites
  • 2 teaspoons (tsp) of olive oil
  • 1 egg

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar in a mixing bowl.
  3. In a second bowl, add the salt and the flour.
  4. Then add the dough conditioner, and powdered milk to the second bowl.
  5. Pour the wet yeast mixture from the first bowl into the second bowl of dry ingredients.
  6. Add the egg whites and olive oil
  7. Mix for 5 minutes on your mixer’s first (lowest) speed.
  8. Mix for another 10 minutes on the mixer’s second speed.
  9. While the dough is mixing, make an egg wash in another bowl by mixing one egg with one tablespoon (tbsp) of water.
  10. Divide the dough into pieces weighing 3 pounds (lbs) each.
  11. Shape the dough pieces into long loaves.
  12. Brush the loaves with the egg wash.
  13. Let the loaves rise on top of the warm oven for 15 minutes.
  14. Bake in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes.

Notes

Your measuring spoon set may have tbsp, TBS, T, TB, or Tbl on it. They all mean tablespoon.
